    Facility & Equipment Details

    Description

The FIRST lab is interested in providing time resolution to all aspects of geology through ages, provenance, and process. Specifically, our laboratory group has two main focuses: U-Pb geochronology of carbonates and B-isotopes. In addition to dating carbonates with U-Pb geochronology, we are also interested in the behavior of U in sedimentary environments. Dr. Rasbury has worked closely with colleagues at the National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS) and the new National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLSII – link to ) for decades to understand U speciation in various minerals and the processes by which U is incorporated and removed from carbonates. Recently, we have begun dating fluorite by U-Pb geochronology and are exploring the processes by which F and REEs are enriched in the crust.
