Hi!  I’m Jack McSweeney, an Assistant Professor at the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SOMAS) at Stony Brook University.  I am a coastal physical oceanographer interested in the interconnected dynamics driving transport within and between coastal subregions, including the inner shelf, surfzone, and estuaries. I specialize in collecting observations via moorings and ocean gliders, and much of my work involves teasing apart processes that occur on overlapping spatiotemporal scales.

My research interests include: 1) the dynamics of shoaling internal waves and their contribution to cross-shelf transport, 2) estuarine and coastal sediment transport, 3) the influence of buoyant plumes, and 4) spatiotemporal variability of stratification in coastal subregions.
