Pavlos Kollias is a SUNY Empire Innovation Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University and has a joint appointment with the Environmental Science and Technologies Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory since 2016. Kollias is also an Adjunct Professor at McGill University, Canada. With over two decades of experience at the forefront of atmospheric experimentation, Kollias is internationally recognized as a leading expert in the use of radars for atmospheric research. His work spans a wide range of interests, including radar engineering, signal processing, smart sensors, and advanced instrumentation. He is actively involved in several national and international projects focused on the development and application of novel phased array and spaceborne radar systems for weather and climate science.
He has authored or co-authored over 230 peer-reviewed publications in the fields of millimeter-wavelength radar, radar technology, signal processing, and the dynamics and microphysics of clouds and precipitation. Before his current post at Stony Brook and Brookhaven, Kollias was a Canada Research Chair and Professor at McGill University in Montreal. He is also the recipient of prestigious awards, including the Humboldt Research Fellowship (2013) and the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Atmospheric Sciences Ascent Award (2020).
