Personal profile

Biography

I am an addiction psychiatrist who has been practicing pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy with my patients for several decades in an academic setting. I also conduct addiction-focused clinical research and work with colleagues to develop machine-learning predictor models to perhaps better prevent onset of opioid addiction and risk for opioid overdose. I teach undergraduates, graduate and medical students and psychiatry residents. A distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, I also advocate within systems of care and with legislators to improve the access to evidence-based psychiatric care, especially for individuals with substance use disorders.
