Abstract
To avoid the disadvantages of various types of special purpose recorders and analysers, with their different signal acquisition and processing techniques, a centralized computer system was installed at the Alden Research Laboratory. This system consists of a host computer, with a multi-user operating system, and a number of remote dedicated processors (mini-computers) at the experimental sites. Application of the systems is illustrated in the areas of thermal discharge models, internal flow instabilities, wave structure interaction, and flow meter calibration. The host computer is also used for numerical modeling. (A)
