Abstract

In this chapter we describe our behavioral family therapy program, which is initiated during a patient’s hospitalization on our acute inpatient unit at the Providence Veterans Administration Medical Center. Before describing this program, we first describe the structure and philosophy of our inpatient unit. We also elaborate on our model of schizophrenia as it provides direction for our treatment program. After detailing our behavioral family therapy program, we discuss its aftercare component and our clinical assessment strategies.
