Abstract
We report the use of extracorporeal membrane life support (ECMO) in an eight-year-old boy with acute respiratory failure (ARF) secondary to influenza Type A pneumonia and concurrent status asthmaticus in whom conventional ventilatory modes were limited because of high peak inspiratory pressures, air leak and hypoxaemia.
