Analytical representations of deformation texture gradients in ceramic superconductors

Abstract

A new approach to represent crystallographic texture associated with deformation of ceramic superconductors is presented. This approach differs from the classical Eulerian projection in a number of ways, the most notable being the representation of misorientation data by a single three dimensional vector known as the Rodrigues-Frank vector. In this paper we outline a procedure to derive orientation distribution functions in Rodrigues-Frank space. This is applied as a simulation technique to assess local crystallographic misalignments associated with deformation induced textures in bulk ceramic superconductors which are composed of grains macroscopically aligned on average along the c-axis. The application of these simulation studies to continuum mechanics descriptions of deformation processing of long lengths of superconducting ceramics is also discussed.
