Abstract
The intent of the paper is to give illustrations of the application of AISC Specification design provisions for tapered members, with particular emphasis on those provisions that are modified by Appendix D. Some attention is given to provisions in Category A. Several examples are presented for this purpose, attempting to illustrate all of the options in Sects. D3 (Bending) and D4 (Combined Stresses) of Appendix D.
