Abstract
Hypertension leads to left ventricular hypertrophy, which often results in heart failure. The author explains the mechanisms of the development of left ventricular hypertrophy, as well as the effect of lifestyle changes on left ventricular mass. Therapeutic options for preventing left ventricular hypertrophy development are discussed. The author indicates that health care providers should focus on preventing or reversing left ventricular hypertrophy before the disease progresses to the irreversible stage, when structural changes in the heart occur.
