Abstract
Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless gas. At low concentrations, CO causes fatigue in healthy people and chest pain in people with heart disease. At higher concentrations, it causes headaches, dizziness, disorientation, nausea, and fatigue. Symptoms of CO poisoning can be mistaken for influenza. At even higher concentrations, exposure can cause loss of consciousness and death. This article includes a discussion of the clinical use and toxicity of CO gas.
