Case Study on the Activation of Low-Voltage Protection Devices

Abstract

Three incidents of low-voltage protective device activation are analyzed: low power factor and excessive harmonic content in lighting circuits causing breaker tripping, incorrect residual current device wiring leading to drain pump circuit failure to close, and aging wire insulation causing frequent residual current device tripping. Based on an overview of low-voltage protection devices activation, the process of on-site investigation, cause analysis, and relatively optimal solutions are presented.
