Changes in Frequency and Amplitude in Electrographic Seizure Discharges

Abstract

The EEGs of 31 patients with recorded electrographic seizure discharges were analyzed. Twenty-five patients had partial and 6 had generalized seizures. Thirteen patients had electrographic seizure discharges inwhich the activity increased in amplitude and decreased in frequency. In the other 18, the discharges were characterized by varying combinations of increasing and decreasing frequency and amplitude. These findings demonstrate that electrographic seizure discharges are often characterized by activity showing many variations in amplitude and frequency. While the pattern of increasing amplitude and decreasing frequency is well described inthe literature, the multiple variations referred to above have not received emphasis.
