Continuous sedimentation of model suspensions promoted by rigid buoyant particles

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Significant increases to the rate of sedimentation of suspensions of granulated polymers in a continuous-gravity settler were achieved by the addition of buoyant particles into the feed suspensions. The greatest enhancements in throughput occurred with suspensions of highest concentrations and highest fluid viscosity, i.e., those that were the "hardest to settle." Throughput was enhanced for both polydisperse and monodisperse suspensions.
