Continuous-wave synchronously pumped no. 5 dye laser

Abstract

A CW synchronously pumped mode-locked no. 5 dye laser using a flowing dye jet is reported. It is pumped by the compressed pulses of a CW mode-locked Nd:YAG laser. The dye laser is composed of a three-mirror folding cavity and the dye jet. The concentration of the dye solution is 7 × 10-4 M. The dye solution is stable for at least one month at room temperature. An even longer lifetime can be obtained by chilling the solution. With a 5% transmission output coupler, the dye laser can generate 200-fs pulses with an average power of 8 mW. By using a 1-mm-thick quartz tuning plate in the cavity, the output can be tuned from 1210 to 1340 nm. However, the maximum output power decreases to 5 mW, and the pulse duration, which is limited by the bandwidth of the tuning filter, increases to 600 fs. The duration-bandwidth product is 0.36 and is transform-limited.
