Abstract

We report a series of precision measurements of the temperature variation of the constant volume heat capacity Cv of liquid 4He near the lambda transition, in samples covering the complete density range between the saturated vapor and freezing pressures. For He II, our Cv data have a temperature dependence that is close to logarithmic at all densities. For He I, Cv is close to logarithmic only at the lowest densities, and obeys finite power laws at higher densities.
