Abstract

Table 5 has been published incorrectly in the original publication of the article. The correct version of the Table 5 is provided below. Bolded numbers in Table 5 have been corrected; the unbolded numbers were correct. Breast cancer: age (continuous), alcohol (servings per week-continuous), smoking (pack-years-continuous), MET-hrs/wk (continuous), age at menarche (<12, 12, 13,≥14), age at first birth (<20, 20-29, ≥30, missing), parity (continuous), family history of breast cancer in a first degree relative (yes, no, missing), history of breast biopsy (yes, no, missing), education (less than high school grad, high school grad/some college, college grad, post-college), ethnicity (white, black, other), treatment allocation (observational study; treatment/control/placebo arm of clinical trials). (Table presented.) Endometrial cancer: age, alcohol, smoking, parity, oral contraceptive use (ever, never), education, ethnicity, treatment allocation. Colorectal cancer: age (continuous), alcohol, smoking, MET-hrs/wk (continuous), aspirin intake, diabetes, family history of colorectal cancer in a first degree relative, education, ethnicity, treatment allocation. Last paragraph of Results section should read: Among never-hormone users, after mutual adjustment using residuals, the HRs for breast cancer and endometrial cancer for the highest relative to the lowest quintile of BMI and WC were weakened compared to the values reported in Table 5 (i.e., compared to the new, corrected values): for breast cancer, HRBMI = 1.39, 95% CI 1.13–1.72; HRWC = 1.30, 95% CI 1.05–1.61, respectively; for endometrial cancer: HRBMI = 2.96, 95% CI 1.71–5.12; HRWC = 2.53, 95% CI 1.44–4.44. After mutual adjustment, BMI was inversely associated with colorectal cancer in never hormone users: HRBMI = 0.62, 95% CI 0.44–0.89, whereas the positive association with WC remained: HRWC = 2.19, 95% CI 1.54–3.13.
