Abstract
The propagation of waves in a magnetoelastic (ME) material is gyrotropic and dispersive, and dependent on the externally applied dc magnetic bias field. As a basis for using these properties in acoustic wave devices employed in electronic systems, a systematic description of the propagation characteristics of exchange - free ME plane waves is given. The propagation characteristics are represented via dispersion diagrams and refractive index diagrams. The polarization of the fields is discussed and numerical examples are presented.
