Abstract
We show that the effective hamiltonian describing an excited baryon in the context of the topological bag model, is equivalent to that of a charged particle moving in a background induced by a nonabelian Berry potential. The effect of the Berry potential in the SU(2) flavor space is to lift the original degeneracy between angular momentum and isospin, leading to a specific spectrum for the excited nonstrange baryons.
