Abstract

An experimental investigation is made concerning the possible application of active control to structures under seismic excitation. The experimental facilities and structural model are carefully fabricated and calibrated. Methodologies for implementation of the active control system with tendons and a hydraulic actuator as controllers are developed. Time delay in control execution, an important factor in the success of structural control, is taken into consideration in the derivation of the control algorithm. The effectiveness of structural control is shown by comparing the controlled response to the uncontrolled one. The correlation between analytical and experimental results is also studied.
