Abstract
A study of the optical gain and loss in InAs/GaInSb cascade lasers, operating within the wavelength range of 3.4-3.6 μm, was presented. The strong gain saturation due to the active region overheating was found to limit the maximum temperature of continuous wave operation. The increase in temperature brought about relatively small total optical loss, while devices with longer lasing wavelength showed strong periodic modulation of the optical gain spectra.
