Abstract

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) cosponsored a conference with the New York State Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway and Transportation Officials and the Northeast Association of State Transportation Officials with the consensus of developing a plan for future freight data collection, based on an architecture or framework. Following the conference, BTS requested that a committee be formed through the Transportation Research Board (TRB) to consider the idea of developing such a framework. In 2003, the committee published its findings in Special Report 276: A Concept for a National Freight Data Program.
