Gender Indusivity in the Linguistic Landscape of Parisian Universities

The present study seeks to contribute to the growing body of inquiry into the spread of the linguistic feminization of occupational nouns and gender-inclusive writing, which has long produced much controversy in French society. The article examines the practices and patterns of gender-inclusive writing observed in the linguistic landscape of Parisian universities, as evidenced in a representative corpus of signs photographed in interior spaces of six institutions. The findings point to a widespread nature of gender-inclusive linguistic practices, with student-created signage displaying a considerably higher rate of inclusivity than that of faculty, staff, and administrators.
