Gold and alloy nanoparticle catalysts in fuel cell reactions

Abstract

Au-based nanoparticles (1-5 nm) have recently emerged as highly active catalysts for many important catalytic reactions. The preparation and catalytic properties of Au-based alloy nanoparticles supported on carbon materials was studied. The dependence of the electrocatalytic activity on the relative bimetallic composition of the catalyst was examined. Au and AuPt nanoparticles that are highly active catalysts for fuel cell reactions could be prepared by a combination of synthesis and processing strategies.
