Abstract

The significance of utilizing environmentally friendly adsorptive materials in desalination processes has emerged as a crucial goal to address water scarcity issues sustainably. This chapter aims to discuss the different types of green adsorptive materials in desalination applications, highlighting their ability to tolerate high salinity levels and remove impurities from water. With the current focus on employing eco-friendly materials for water desalination, various types of materials have been explored, including biomass-based, mineral-based, and bio-based materials. Several case studies were investigated in this chapter in order to compare the different types of green adsorptive materials and demonstrate their potential in water purification. Despite the advantages offered by these materials, there are still some critical challenges that need to be addressed, such as economic viability, reusability, chemical instability, scalability, and limited capacity.
