Abstract
Distance subjective refraction and binocular balancing using each of successive alternate occlusion (SAO), vertical prism dissociation (VPD) and Humphriss immediate contrast (HIC) techniques was performed on a population of 30 young subjects. Each procedure was carried out 3 times with prisms being added to induce changes in phoria. While the prisms did not produce any significant change in refractive error, less myopia was observed consistently with the HIC procedure.
