Abstract
Internships and Cooperative Education programs have existed in many fields for many years. One field that is yet to be dominated by programs of this type, is Computer Science. This paper will review the implementation of a very successful, competitively based, and highly structured Internship/Cooperative Education program. The advantages and disadvantages of such programs will be discussed, as well as the requirements that should be expected of students, industrial supervisors, and faculty supervisors. Results of research concerning the viability of such programs are also presented and analyzed.
