Abstract

High growth and more equal profit represent the most desirable future circumstances for quality of life. This is not an endorsement of growth itself, for high growth futures appear potentially unpleasant for many inhabitants of the poor world. Low growth futures have some desirable aspects, and it is impossible to imagine high growth for long periods, but for the next 50 yr it is the best buy. Too many of the past views of world futures have simply echoed national aspirations: a global approach is vital. -K.Clayton
