Abstract
The nonlinear response of the charge-density wave (CDW) in NbSe3 to combined ac + dc excitations is discussed. We analyze the harmonic and subharmonic steps appearing in the current-voltage characteristics and compare the experimental results to computer simulations. The effects of internal degrees of freedom and the relevance of some universal scaling properties, derived from the properties of the sine circle map, are investigated.
