Abstract
This micromechanisms of fatigue crack growth are evaluated for Inconel 718 (a nickel-based turbine disc alloy). Micromechanisms of long crack growth are determined via detailed scanning and transmission electron microscopy analysis. The significant role of monotonic fracture modes is also discussed for crack growth in the high ΔK regime. Crack growth laws are also proposed that describe the fatigue behavior for each of the micromechanisms of fatigue crack growth observed in this alloy.
