Abstract

Lidocaine is an antiarrhythmic agent that is commonly administered to hospitalized patients with ventricular tachycardia (VT). It is eliminated by hepatic biotransformation to two active metabolites, monoethylglycinexylidide (MEGX) and glycinexylidide, and several inactive metabolites including N-ethylglycine (NEG). We report a case of interference with the Kodak Ektachem 700 analyzer single-slide method for serum creatinine measurement in a patient receiving long-term lidocaine therapy.
