Abstract

A technique has been developed to perform the dynamic-light-scattering experiment on iron oxide aerosols which are normally formed by combustion process. The particles are made to flow in the air between two tubes separated by a distance 0. 5 cm. These particles are used to scatter the He-Ne laser light in order to measure the auto-correlation function of the scattered light. This gives a quantitative information about the fluctuations of the motion of the particles, including all accurate determination of their correlation time. From the correlation time one can estimate the total diffusion coefficient.
