Abstract

Seven families in which more than one member had episodic vertigo or hearing loss or both are described. Two families had histories of allergy and members of three other families were suffering from migraine headaches. The evidence suggests that there may be a relation between migraine, Meniere's disease and the autonomic nervous system. It is suggested that in at least some cases of Meniere's disease, heredity may play a role.
