Abstract

The stage 2 CoCl2-GIC shows two magnetic phase transitions at Tcl (=8.0 K) and Tcu (=9.1 K). The intermediate phase between Tcl and Tcu has a purely 2D ordering with easy-plane type anisotropy. Below Tcl the CoCl2 layers couple antiferromagnetically. The stage 2 MnCl2-GIC shows a magnetic phase transition at Tc (=1.20 K). The spin in-plane structure below Tc has a 2√3×2√3 periodicity which is different from a 120° spin structure implying a (√3×√3)R30° structure.
