Abstract
This paper summarized the recent development in the research of magneto-optical properties of ferrofluids and reported the studies of their magnetically induced birefringence and optical bistability fulfilled by the authors. Experiments manifest that the ferrofluid thin films exhibit good infrared transmission and can be used as new types of magneto-optical materials.
