Abstract

The elastic moduli of individual trabeculae of vertebrae was determined. Scanning acoustic microscopy techniques were used to investigate the mechanical properties of bone and its micro-architecture. It was found that the elastic moduli of trabeculae decreased with age. Therefore, the osteoporosis-fracture was related to the elastic moduli of individual trabecular.
