Abstract

A leaky wave filtenna (LWF) with a frequency scanned radiated beam in the forward and backward direction is designed in this paper. The LWF is composed of a composite right/left handed transmission line (CRLH-TL) leaky wave antenna (LWA) that is realized with vialess unit cells and the addition of a band stop filter (BSF) element to achieve additional frequency selectivity. The beam scanning capability of the leaky wave structure will be maintained. The LWF prototype is centered for broadside radiation at 4.2 GHz with forward and backward beam scanning and an increased out-of-band suppression compared to a similar LWA. The measured results show good agreement with the simulation.
