Abstract
Understanding knowledge economy ideology and its connection to minoritized populations is essential to ensuring equitable education. This paper offers a broad examination of the knowledge economy and how it shapes institutions of higher education. An examination of the theoretical underpinnings of the knowledge economy and how it has influenced national educational policy, formed systems of thought on the purpose of education, and the impact it has had on the cultural practices surrounding educational advancement is also offered. Finally, a critique of the knowledge economy and related theories is shared with a particular emphasis on minoritized college students.
