Abstract
The emission characteristics, solution lifetimes, and molecular association of the methyl iodide derivative of the laser dye 1,4-bis(β-pyridyl-2-vinyl)benzene (P2VB·MeI) together with the isoelectronic dye 1,4-bis(4-pyridyl-2-vinyl)benzene (P4VB) are reported. Both compounds undergo molecular aggregation with subsequent excimer formation. P4VB is characterized by relatively high fluorescence quantum yields and increased solution photostability. The spectral behavior of P4VB is also reported as a function of micellization effect and medium acidity.
