Abstract
Comprehensive serum and urine analyses and standardized bone-biopsy techniques have established the morphological heterogeneity of osteoporosis. In the future we can expect sophisticated radiographic techniques to assist in the follow-up care of patients receiving a broad range of therapeutic agents. Only in recognizing the specific metabolic state responsible for the loss of bone mass can we attempt to alter its course and curb this debilitating illness.
