Abstract
The biomechanical etiology of pelvic fracture under side impact loading was studied. The temporal and spatial stress distribution within the pelvis was evaluated using a finite element method. The high loading rates in the human pelvis resulted in acetabular fractures, while the low loading rates resulted in fracture to the pelvic bone, particularly in the pubic rami.
