Abstract

How can we reproduce process of the phase change of liquid silk to solid phase? In many cases, people use silk solution which is made by dialysis. We use alive silkworm, dissect it, and take out silk gland on various stages because sol-gel transition of liquid silk occurs in the silk gland after starting spinning threads at the 5th stage. Osmotic pressure method is useful in observing the process of phase exchange of liquid silk. Additionally we used SEM, TEM and AFM to see the phase changes. When we put liquid silk solution drop to PEG(high osmotic pressure), we can see gathering silk fibroin. It can be reported.
