Abstract

Pharmacokinetics is the study of drug transport, drug distribution, and drug elimination in biological systems. Its roots are in the area of chemical kinetics, which utilize differential equations to describe chemical reactions, typically on a timescale. As depicted in this section, Research Applications, of this text, there are a handful of data analysis and pharmacokinetic modeling approaches that might be applied to any given data set to generate characteristic pharmacokinetic parameters. Physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PB/PK) modeling might be considered a unique approach because it has a singular focus of investigating drug disposition in tissues.
