Protein folding froh the perspective of simple models

Abstract

To predict the 3-dimensional structure of a protein from its amino acid sequence requires searching for a needle (the native structure) in the haystack of conformational space. Two problems need to be solved. First, we need an adequate model of the energies that bind amino acids together in solution, so that we can discriminate the needle from the hay. Second, we need a very fast way to search conformational space. Based on systematic tests in simplified functions and conformational search strategies.
