Reaction of metal carbonyl hydrides with decacarbonyldimanganese (Mn2(CO)10): radical reactions initiated by room light

Abstract

We have investigated the room light initiated reactions of HFeCp(CO)PPh3 or HMoCp(CO)2PPh3 with Mn2(CO)10. In the reaction with the iron hydride we have observed six products and in the reaction with molybdenum hydride we have observed eight products. The nature of the products strongly suggests reactions of seventeen-electron complexes. The number of products show that recombinations of the seventeen-electron species occur with very low activation barriers, showing very little selectivity.
