Abstract
Harmonic-rejection mixer (HRM) is a commonly used circuit block to reduce the mixing of spurious harmonic tones in wideband receivers. The overall performance of HRMs, however, is limited by gain and phase mismatches among the polyphase mixers. In this review paper, the harmonic distortion problem is viewed as a multiuser detection problem in communications. Digital compensation techniques can then be employed to significantly improve HRM performance. Furthermore, the insights gained from this perspective are used to also suppress the intermodulation distortion products. A prototype chip has been built as proof of concept.
