Solitary wave dynamics in generalized Hertz chains: An improved solution of the equation of motion

Abstract

An overview is given on an exact solution that can be generated using a hybrid technique that exploits numerical analysis and an analytic form to describe the solitary waves. It is shown that the solution may be interpreted as a solution for the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam (FPU) problem in an appropriate asymptotic limit.
