Abstract
Aromatic clathrates of M2+ (γ-picoline)4(SCN)-)2 with M=Mn and Ni are examined for their suitability for spectroscopic studies of aromatic molecules. Results are presented from Raman phonon, vibrational spectra and singlet→triplet transition which reveal large disorder and inhomogeneous broadening, significant guest-guest and guest-host coupling and a rapid phosphorescence quenching.
