Abstract

The goals are to measure (1) small angle elastic scattering into the coulomb region, (2) large angle elastic scattering, and (3) single diffraction dissociation. The small angle elastic scattering is used via the optical theorem to obtain σt and the π-value. Beta at the interaction point must be ∼3 km in order to do the small angle elastic scattering. Such high beta is not needed at the detector positions. The intermediate beta region is well suited for the large angle elastic scattering and single diffraction scattering.
