Based on previous analytical study on structural responses under different pulse combinations, this paper introduces 3 sets of shake table tests for building structures under pulse-dominant ground motions. First sets of shake table tests (1D input) were carried out to verify analytical results with 2 comparable single-story steel structures under different pulse combination excitations. The second sets of tests were conducted to examine the inelastic response of 3 comparable single-story RC structures under pulse type ground motions. And the third sets of simulation tests (3D input) were carried out for a high-rise RC building structure to examine the pulse induced response vs. the full earthquake record in MDOF dynamic system. The test results in terms of the acceleration and displacement response of test specimens under the excitation of full record and their segregated pulse counterparts were compared and analyzed. The dominant effects of the segregated pulse in pulse-dominant ground motions were observed and verified in seismic tests.
